Photographs by Gunnie Moberg with an Introduction by Duncan McLean
From the majestic soaring cliffs of Hoy to the intimacy of the Italian Chapel at Lamb Holm, Orkney is a place of surprising and varied contrast. In this book, acclaimed photographer Gunnie Moberg presents over a hundred views of Orkney that capture not only the awesome natural beauty of the place and its remarkably rich heritage of buildings and monuments, but also the people who live there. All of them capture the islands’ unique magical atmosphere, which still resonates today with the deeds of saints and warriors, fishermen and farmers.
Gunnie Moberg has lived in Orkney for over thirty years. She has collaborated with the author Liv Schei on books about Orkney, Shetland and the Faroe Islands as well as with George Mackay Brown, providing images to accompany his poems. She exhibits her work regularly, both at home and abroad. Duncan McLean is one of Scotland’s best-known contemporary novelists. His short story collection ‘Bucket of Tongues’ won the Somerset Maugham Award in 1993 and his novels include ‘The Bunker Man’ and ‘Blackden’. He lives in Orkney.
