The purpose of heraldry is to distinguish persons and families, and to represent heroic achievements of our ancestors and to perpetuate their memory.
The Scottish Clans have many families who are descendants of the Clan Chief or have worked and perhaps fought for the Clan. They are called Septs. Anyone who has ancestors with Clan or Sept names can wear or display the Clan Crest to show their allegiance to the Clan Chief. Wearing the Clan Crest is a privilege and should be worn with pride.
