The Baird clan rose to prominence thanks to a spontaneous act of bravery which saved an ancient king's life. They became wealthy landowners whose actions helped shape Scotland's history. Among their ranks were distinguished businessmen, soldiers and scholars.
But they were all eclipsed by an unhealthy minister's son from Helensburgh. John Logie Baird died in 1946. It would be more than 40 years before the rest of the world caught up with his genius.
